Hi, my name is Rose Barros. Founder of Living Soil Aruba.
I started my career as a primary school teacher. While teaching was my duty, my true passion lay in the fertile soils of Aruba. I found solace and purpose in tending to the land, growing food, and nurturing nature. My journey led me to Syntropic Agroforestry, a hollistic approach to agriculture that emphasizes regenerating the earth while producing abundant food. My commitment to regenerating the earth and growing food sustainibly has not only enhanced soil quality but has also paved the way for a more ecologically conscious agricultural future on our beautiful island Aruba. I believe strongly that through our sharing of knoweledge and sustainable practicies, we can make a significant difference in our communities and the world at large.
I'm looking forward to working and growing with you.
Rose Barros
A bit more about my journey
My personal journey began in 2014 when I met my now-husband, Daniel Barros. Our connection was forged through our shared love for cultivating food, and together, we embarked on a journey of experimentation and mutual learning. While Daniel pursued knowledge through extensive reading and watching instructional videos, I sought to connect with individuals who had hands-on experience. To foster this connection and create a vibrant community, I initiated various community groups on Facebook. These platforms became spaces for like-minded individuals to come together, sharing our passion for gardening. We organized planting and seed swap days, forming a network of individuals who willingly collaborated in each other's gardens. Additionally, I reached out to experts from neighboring regions to gain specialized insights into cultivating within our arid climate.
It was during this period that I was introduced to the concepts of Permaculture and Syntropic Agroforestry. This newfound knowledge reshaped my approach to food cultivation and environmental stewardship. The journey was marked by a series of trials and errors, with moments of joy and challenges that brought both laughter and tears. Now, I find myself at a point where my background as a teacher, my unwavering passion for sustainable food production, and my commitment to regenerating the Earth have beautifully converged into a unified purpose. This journey has not only enriched my life but has also allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the community and the planet we call home.
